Connections Open Gym Program

The Line Up
Mark Fenz takes charge in getting all the kids to understand a few behavioral rules before the fun begins. As a part of the extended Open Gym program Friday nights at Kaegebein, School the control factor becomes a must. Mark has a magical ability to get their attention. Hopefully Mark will be back with us in the fall, see note below.

Heads Up
As Cody Clark, rec. aide, tosses a ball into the air, everyone is focused and ready to play.

The Craft Corner
Anna Quider, rec aide, is helping a group of kids with vbeads and boondoogle. It's great to see many of the young men try their stinging skills.

Chess with Computer
Pictured here, Adam Kaiser, rec aide, engages many of the particpants in a game of chess. With the help of a laptop computer, basic chess moves can be taught and hundreds of previoulsy played games can be reviewed. The photos on this page were taken and processed on the same laptop with the help of the kids.

Refreshments
Linda Tufillaro, rec. director, is helping the kids with snacks. Pizza always hits the spot.

Seniors on Board
Although the photo isn't clear, in the background seniors Hank Carroll, Connections Board Member, his wife Nonnie, and another senior couple help pour the drinks. Supporting interactive events that "connect" various parts of the community, is part of the Connections Philosophy.

We can all learn some magical skills from Mark Fenz, Prevention Educator with ECCPASA, and an outreach with the GIFTS Program. From the first session Mark demonstrated an uncanny ability to bring out the best in the kids. I saw him complimenting one youngster for the responsible way he reacted to a discipline situation. I think the young man believed him and to my amazement, rose to a new level of behavior. Many parents come to our open gym program to chaperone and participate. Hope to See you in the fall . . . . . . .
